BRE’s Construction Lean Improvement Programme (CLIP) was created by the former DTI in 2003 to support the UK construction industry in its drive to improve business performance and provide a better product and service to its customers.

CLIP has saved the industry more than £56m since then, working with more than 150 companies from across the construction industry; main contractors and their supply chains, specialist contractors, product manufacturers and distributors, and client organisations.

CLIP has created tools and techniques, tailored to construction, that enable companies to make real and measurable improvements to Quality, Cost and Delivery performance, and to improve partnerships with customers and suppliers. The purpose of CLIP is to work practically with people across the construction industry to help them to:

►   Be more profitable

►    Improve productivity

►   Improve delivery performance

►   Satisfy customers

►   Develop lean skills in the workforce

►   Ensure that the benefits are sustained over time

CLIP does not provide training or consultancy in traditional terms, but works through direct intervention; challenging the company’s team to make practical improvements. This means that change is immediate, obvious to the people who will need to sustain it, measurable, and directly related to need.

The Building Research Establishment (BRE) is the UK’s leading centre for research and consultancy in the built environment and is owned by BRE Trust, a research and education charity for the public benefit. All of the companies owned by BRE Trust contribute their profits to supporting the Trust’s mission to champion excellence and innovation in the built environment.
